What can we claim? Husband lost his job!?
My husband and I both 38 have never been in a dole office in our lives - let alone claimed any benefits, so we have no clue what comes next. Husband has been to register, but because I work 18 and half hours per week, we were told that we would not get any help and he would only get £60 a week. We have one school age child and a BIG mortgage..... 1) what's next, 2) Is there something we could do to increase our chance of claiming more money and 3) How do you get free school meals. He is searching for a job everyday, but in his industry (Building and construction) it's pretty bleak at the moment. Can anyone give any suggestions?..... only proper, helpful and sensible answers please as we have enough worry to deal with. Thanks in advance.

A Labour spokeswoman is given the unenviable task of defending the indefensible. Listen to the Cambridge prof - not only does he speak absolute sense, but you have to admire the manner in which he calmly conveys to the viewer: "We tried to tell the government not to put all the eggs in one basket, but the arrogant bastards wouldn't listen".....
