can i have housing and council tax benefit paid into my bank account?

I am a single person on benefits, i have my nieces and nephews over night sometimes, i live in a 1 bedroomed council flat but would like to move to a private 2 bedroomed house. the council wont give me a house because i have no children. my only option is to go private. but as most estate agents wont deal with housing benefits, i was wondering if i can have them paid directly into my bank account.

what happens to housing benefit when you stop getting child tax credits?

im self employed single parent and and have one child. im in film and fashion and my income fluctuates. soon my teen will stop college and my child tax credits and child benefit will stop. at the moment i get some housing benefit ...i think this will be lowered when he stops college? If he becomes self employed he will get working tax credits and my question is...will he get a token of housing benefit to contribute to the rent here if there are weeks of no profit from the self employed business?

Before i went back to work after my first child I received income support and child tax credits,and housing benefit and council tax benefit. When i went back to work my housing and council tax benefit stopped and i have to pay full. My baby is due in november and i want to know if i get maternity pay and child and working tax credits will i get housing and council tax benefit?
Thanks for all your very helpful answers. Should have expected it really. Small minded people who obviously didn't even read the question properly. So, are you saying only people on benefits get maternity pay. Oh well, hope it makes you feel better. I really appreciate you paying for my children. Can my child’s father move in to my private rented flat for which I receive full housing benefit?

Hi there,

My partner and I have a 6 month old little boy and we want to live together in September this year. My son and I currently live in a 2 bed flat through a private landlord found by Harrow Council's let-start scheme and I get full/most of my housing benefit paid. In September I will be starting an access course and so will my child's dad (a level 3 qualification) which means he will only be working less than 16 hours and I won't be able to work at all because I won't be able to afford the childcare for the days I am not at college. - (sorry that was a long one!). But if you're still following, can I move my child's father in with us from September and will I still be entitled to the following benefits: full housing benefit, child tax credits, council tax benefit? It's just we don't want to move in together if it sacrifices the help I'm currently getting but we really want to try and work things out again for the sake of our gorgeous little boy growing up in a loving 2 parent home, which is what neither of us had growing up.

FYI "cool" Hal, we have both worked all our lives paying a hell of allot of money in tax and N.I - this is the first time I've ever had to be in a situation where I claim benefits. I am going to do a degree in occupational therapy to help people who are less able to help themselves. My baby's father is going to become a social worker after working for years helping disadvantaged youth and neither of us could afford to go to college or Uni when we left school but now there is a way to. We both really want to make a difference in this world. We also need to be in professional careers to provide a better wage for our child and in the long run support him throughout his entire life rather than rely on benefits if say I'm made redundant again or worse something happens to one of us. Do you have kids? If you did you would understand wanting the best start in life for them
In addition to that, if one of us goes to work and the other to Uni, we still have the cost of childcare to consider. We would automatically get working tax credits to cover this - about £600 per month, like allot of people in this country are entitled to. But doing it this way we don't have any childcare difficulties as we would work between ourselves to cover it. So I think all works out quite fair in the long run. Perhaps you could consider changing your profile name... I think Shallow Hal works better!
Shallow Hal, you are obviously fortunate enough to be in a relatively good position in life, yourself and your wife and congrats to you, I have allot of respect for that. Your life turned out perfectly, marriage, children, open university, life just gets better. Unfortunately not everything is so simple for everyone. Am I relying on a bit of help from the government to help me get by, well the answer is yes. But not for the fun of it but because I actually need it. If you want to spend more quality time with your children I suggest you stop wasting your time attacking peoples lifestyles on the internet, it doesn't half say allot about you as a person. Perhaps you could also be less insulting to my 6 month old child, by saying you are supporting him, how dare you. Honestly, just free up some of your hard earned time and leave playing the Judger to God. Now please, just go away.
On a healthy salary for the past 5 years I would say I've paid my fair share of tax and N.I and I cover my own bills and childs expenses through part-time work I do at the moment. Tell me you don't receive child benefit for your two kids and I'll leave it alone but if you do then you're living a big fat contradiction and frankly you should go and fuc yourself.Twit.

can we claim housing benefit?

my partner is working and we are claiming tax credits and at the moment we have to pay full 59.00 a week rent to the council and full council tax. i have three children and all 5 of us are currently living in a very small 2 bedroomed flat. we have been on the council waiting list for over a year now and have been informed that we may never get a move to a bigger property as we are non priorityand there is a lack of council houses. The private housing is very expensive and the cheapest 3 bedroom house i can find to rent is 125.00 per week. would we be able to get help towards this rent through housing benefit as it is just too expensive for us. my partner is working full timeand we get working tax credits and child tax credits. no-one seems to know, not even the rent offices! many thanks!xxx
im british born and bred by the way lol
we've tried housing associations and we've been on their lists over a year despite having full medical points for severe post natal depression. they've told us not to hold our breaths as they have limited properties and everyone wants them.

i am a single parent who works 16 hours per week. my child has mild cerebal palsy and i currently receive the medium rate of disability living allowance for her. at the moment we are living with my parents but things are not ideal and i am trying to find out what i would be entitled to if i got my own home e.g help with furnishing, rent, council tax etc

If you work 20hrs a week, are you entitled to any form of housing benefit?

My friend and I have been in debate about this and we cannot find detailed information on the net. She has been struggling to find full time work and the only jobs going in our area are around the 20hrs a week mark. She has accepted a Job at £5.80/hr on a 20hr week. This is not enough for her to pay rent of £550/month and live on.
Is she entitled to government support? She has no children, 23years old and single.

She thinks that if you work under 16hrs you are entitled to help but anything over you are not entitled to anything... I can't believe this is true... is it?
Surely working at something is better than not working at all and recieving full benefits?
