Financial and Health Help is At Hand for Pregnant Women

From the website www.webchats.tv If you or any member of your family is expecting a child, you will know how difficult the 9 months leading up to the birth can be. From morning sickness to buying baby clothes and how to look after yourself and your newborn, we all know how stressful, time consuming and financially costly the whole process can become. But there is some help available and this April the government is introducing the new Health in Pregnancy Grant worth £190. So how does it work? Weve put together a panel of experts in our studio to help you with any questions you may have about the new grant. Janet Fyle, Professional Policy Advisor at the Royal College of Midwives, can answer any questions you may have about your health and diet and that of the baby. Jane Ashton who is 20 weeks pregnant. The government already offers a variety of support when your child is born, from the Child Trust Fund to Child Benefit and help through Tax Credits but now there is even more financial help aimed specifically at pregnant women which can be claimed during the run up to the big day. If your baby is due on or after the 6th April 2009 you can apply for the new Health in Pregnancy Grant which offers a single £190 cash payment paid directly into your bank account. So if you are a mum to be and want to know more, log on to the Web TV show with Yvette Cooper, MP Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Jane Ashton and Janet Fyle to find out how you can benefit. You can submit any questions ...

Help with Economics homework (part 2)?

I have been given the following exercise to complete but cannot attend the next seminar to go through the answers and get the explanations. What answers would you choose and why?

Thank you! xx

6) Mr Peesely is a farmer living in Ulster (UK) in a town bordering another country, the Republic of Ireland where his friend Mr Edams farms. Mr Peesely takes a box of sausages which would sell for £100 (110 euro) in Ulster across to the Republic and exchanges the box for Irish sausages from Mr Edams’farm. He brings these sausages into the UK, to Ulster, and sells them for £120. The impact on the GDP in the UK would be the following:
a. UK GDP will rise by £120 ,
b. UK GDP will decrease by £20,
c. UK GDP will rise by £20
d. UK GDP will remain unaffected.

7) Lady Chatterley used to pay her gardener a salary of £100 thousand per year, and free accommodation in her garden shed. Having heard that Lady Chatterley has fallen on hard times having lost money in an Irish bank that has gone bust, he offers his gardening services out of love and affection, receiving no pecuniary benefit in return, and pays her £10 thousand pounds rent for the cottage where he had hitherto lived free of charge. In consequence, the GDP as recorded in the national income accounts will
a. increase by £10 thousand
b. decrease by £100 thousand
c. neither increase nor decrease.
d. decrease by £90 thousand.
8) In the fast growing economy of Solovia, some of the working age hitherto unemployed adults move away from their family homes in villages and obtain employment in cities. Their parents are left behind and the state engages village youths, also hitherto unemployed, to care for the elderly people that were previously looked after by their children. These newly employed carers are paid by raising the rate of income tax. In consequence, the national income accounts will register the following for the GDP:
a. increase
b. decrease
c. no change.
d. none of the above

9) Consider the following stylised model of the economy of Solovia at
equilibrium:
Y = C + S and S = I
Where Y = output, C = Consumption, S = Saving, I = investment, and all of them are measured in the same currency, Solovian florint. Examining data for national income accounts, experts who have been recruited by the Office of National Statistics for having passed their first year examination in Quantitative Methods report that the consumption function is as follows:
C = 1000000 + (1/4) Y
REQUIRED:
The parameter “propensity to consume” is (Choose the best answer from below):
a. 1-0.25 = 0.75
b) ¾
c) 0.25
d) 5/4
The Keynesian multiplier is
a. 1/4
b. ¾
c. 4/3
d.0.75

10) Because intermediate goods, goods that are used in the production of other goods, are excluded from GDP, the following will be excluded in measuring the GDP:
a. cost of airlines tickets incurred in going on holiday.
b. drinks purchased at restaurants by public relations firms to entertain their clients.
c. food purchased at restaurants during holidays.
d. all of the above.

The answers I got were C, D, A, no idea and A, although Economics is not my best subject by far so I've no idea if I'm right!

I am a UK citizen currently living in Canada for 6 months with my canadian fiancee, awaiting the birth of our child. After the birth we will be living in England permanantly (the baby will have dual citizenship). We have discovered that my fiancee will not be eligible for any child benefits because of the visa she is on. My question is Will I,as the father and a UK citizen, be eligible for any child benefits?

COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT FRAUD PLEASE HELP?

my partner and i recieved a letter today from the council tax office say we were to go in for an interview as they said we had commited a criminal offence and im so scared. They said they were not aware that i was working whilst my parter is on job seekers allowance which is completley untrue as we notified the correct agencies.

My partner is on jsa income based and when he first went on it i was on maternity leave but recieving no money as it was over 9 months. When he had been claiming for 8 weeks i returned back to work and informed the benefit agency. I have a letter which states you jsa will change from 90 per week till 26 a week due to a change in income...obviously as my wage was now taken into account. The tax office also then put me on working tax credits as i was able to get that as i was working. this was the end of 2008. we were told the aplication for housiing and council benefit would still apply as i only work 29 hours and my partner was still on jsa and they had deducted his money accordingly. In april 09 i have the letter from the council tax which states for ye09/10 council benefit paid as in reciept od jsa. I had heard nothin since untill today where the office is saying no one was informed. How can they say that when we did inform as thats why my partners money went down and i was able to get tax credits. We rang the job centre who say yes it clearly on the files that we are in recipt of working tax credit which would mean someone is working but the council tax are saying somethin different they even said i ws in recipt of jsa which is totally not true i have never claimed in my life

im so scared that we will go to prison or somethin i have the letters which say that change of income noted etc so i will take them but they are interviewing us seperate and recording it and im so scared. This would ruin my career as well as im a nurse i have not commited any fraud...can anyone help please who know about this. they wont tell me anythin till interview which is not till next week

* 20 hours ago
* - 3 days left to answer.

Additional Details
i never informed council office as i have never claimed b4 and never went to council offices to fill in forms the job centre done them all when my partner first signed on so as far as i was aware i thought it was them that delt with all benefits avin never had t have them before in my life so we let them know thinking it was them thats sorted it out and yes when i rang council regarding this issue they said its all to do with the dwp so we did inform right as far as im aware...also people may think im raking it in well no im not as my partner only now gets 5 a week job seekers as my wage changed again which they knew about so his entitlement dropped again and everyone who works get working tax so that is unfair to say that... i have 2 children also and not working full time so i dont get that much
yes we both on register and jointly own our home....i keep goin over it in my mind and like if they didnt know i was working like they saying then why did my partners money drop so dramitically....it even says due to change of money comiing in and was changed on exactly the day i started work...i have no savings so i know it nothin like that....i further been told if i was working he should not ave been able to get job seekers but i didnt know that as like i said when we rang hanley and told them all the details thye never said that all that happened like i said is money entitlement dropped i really cant believe this i really wished i had looked up on the net but when someone is goin through it with you as you unsure you presume they know there job as there there to help and advise
