Should child benefit be means tested?
Pensioners are means tested to see if they qualify for a state pension, and other benifets that they should resieve without question. If a family earns lets say £15,000.00 a year after deductions should they recieve child benifet for their children, & what do you think the savings should be used for, i think to lower income tax.
what happens to housing benefit when you stop getting child tax credits?
im self employed single parent and and have one child. im in film and fashion and my income fluctuates. soon my teen will stop college and my child tax credits and child benefit will stop. at the moment i get some housing benefit ...i think this will be lowered when he stops college? If he becomes self employed he will get working tax credits and my question is...will he get a token of housing benefit to contribute to the rent here if there are weeks of no profit from the self employed business?

my sister-in-law is living with us now. how easy is it to start claiming child benefits and that?
we are already parents and we claim child benefits and child tax credits for her... my sister-in-law has come to live with us now because her step-dad keeps beating her up and she cant take it no more... she is 16 in october. her mum said to me that we wont be able to claim for her because she is her legal guardian until she is 16... but she is officially living here and is not classed as living with her mum anymore. her mum wont be providing anything for her, it will be us.. so will it be easy just to ring the child benefits and just tell them that she's just living with us now or do we have to do a much harder procedure?
