Should child benefit be means tested?
Pensioners are means tested to see if they qualify for a state pension, and other benifets that they should resieve without question. If a family earns lets say £15,000.00 a year after deductions should they recieve child benifet for their children, & what do you think the savings should be used for, i think to lower income tax.
can i have housing and council tax benefit paid into my bank account?
I am a single person on benefits, i have my nieces and nephews over night sometimes, i live in a 1 bedroomed council flat but would like to move to a private 2 bedroomed house. the council wont give me a house because i have no children. my only option is to go private. but as most estate agents wont deal with housing benefits, i was wondering if i can have them paid directly into my bank account.
what happens to housing benefit when you stop getting child tax credits?
im self employed single parent and and have one child. im in film and fashion and my income fluctuates. soon my teen will stop college and my child tax credits and child benefit will stop. at the moment i get some housing benefit ...i think this will be lowered when he stops college? If he becomes self employed he will get working tax credits and my question is...will he get a token of housing benefit to contribute to the rent here if there are weeks of no profit from the self employed business?
is it ok to report a benefit cheat, what shall i do?
I have already reportied and nothing has been happening this family still has two brand new 4x4 , two other cars while the husband also has a very good bussines but the wife stil claims house +tax + child benefit for the last 6 years is it worth it to report it again it seems waste of time

Does Child Benefit count towards you Mortgage Allowance?
I already have a mortgage, but am wanting to move again within a year or two and will need to up my mortgage to do this.
So I was just wondering whether I could include any child benefits I might get as an income when applying for a mortgage. As I will only want to work part time, if I had a baby and might not be able to afford to move.

Benefit entitlements when on maternity allownce?
I am desperately in need if some advice on what benefits I should be getting. I am a single mum as I split from my partner when pregnant. I claim maternity allowence of £123 a week and recieve child tax credits of £65 a week and child benefit of £20 a week. My local council have just written to me to tell me that I owe them £900 in benefit over-payments since December. I had been paying £40 a week rent and £16 a week council tax. They are saying that I should have been paying £20 a week council tax and £80 a week rent which would leave me with only £23 a week left over. I am quite sure that this cannot be right as if I was on income support I would be recieving full housing benefit and full council tax benefit and then £60 a week income support aswell as tax credits and child bebefit. Surley it cant be right that I would have been £45 a week better off on income support?? I have checked the website entitledto.com and also the entitlements page on directgov.com and they both say that I had been recieving the correct benefits so I am sooooo confused. Does anyone else recieve maternity allowence and also housing and council tax benefits? If so, how much rent do you have to pay?? Any advice would be greatly appreiciated as I certainly dont have a spare £900!

benefit and tax credit advice please!?
i currently receive housing benefit, income support, and child tax credit. i am a single mum of 2 and i do not work. im thinking of having my partner move in with us but im not sure how financially viable it is. any ideas who i can contact to find out?? im also thinking of doing part time work but is it worth it with child care costs and working tax credits?? anyone been in this situation?? any advice?? thanks
