do you still get child tax benefit if your child goes to jail for a short period?
YES-you can still claim the child tax credit if your child was under age 17 by the end of the year, if you provided at least 1/2 of their support during the year and if they lived with you for at least 6 months during the year. If your child met those qualifications-regardless if they spent several months in jail-then you can claim them on your return.
