SSDI and medicaid benefits for child if I get married?
We are planning to have a civil ceremony (no legal papers signed) in aug 2009. I plan to change my name and hopefully my daughters also. Will she lose her SSDI benefits and her medicaid? Because she has been deemed disabled, I know that she has her own separate case independent from me, but as her legal guardian will any of this change her benefits? We live in Colorado
It will not affect her SSDI as this is based solely on her disability and her and her employers contributions to Social Security. It's possible that her medicaid could be affected if she lives with you and your new husband, since it is household income that is counted. If she lives on her own, it would have no affect.

No, as long as she isn’t the one getting married, her SSDI benefits won’t be jeapordized.
