is child benefit payable to apprentices?

My son hopes to do an apprenticeship and nvq level 1,2 and 3. Trying to find out if child benefit is still paid, tax credits and child support

Child benefit can be paid for a person who is between 16 and 20 for Entry to Employment and Programme-led Apprenticeships, it must be goverment approved. part of a job contract doesn't count as approved.

The maximum age to claim child benefit up to changed over a year ago from the age of 19 to the age of 20

  2. Are you in the UK. Do you mean college? if full time college then yes up until 19. Anyway if you phone them they will tell you.

  3. Child benefit, tax credits and child support are only paid whilst the child is in full-time education up the age of 19 years.
If a person takes on an apprenticeship for which they get paid wages (even though they may only be at minimum wage rate), all benefits cease to be paid.

  4. No. As an apprentice he will be getting a little bit of money each week.
Also he has to be in full time education for you to receive benefits for him

  5. i believe as long as he is under 19 and in full time (ie over 12 hrs) in a college then u should still get it. best way is to call them and ask them. also should be the same for tax credits and child support, the key is if they are in what is classed as full time education on a recognised qualification.

  7. It depends on the apprenticeship. If your son has left full time education and has gone to work for an employer, under a standard apprenticeship you no longer qualify for child benefit or tax credits, as he is paid a wage. A claim for child support is possible but no through the CSA but the courts.

Need to be careful though training courses could be described at apprenticeships, then my answer could be different depends on what is being considered
