what happens to housing benefit when you stop getting child tax credits?

im self employed single parent and and have one child. im in film and fashion and my income fluctuates. soon my teen will stop college and my child tax credits and child benefit will stop. at the moment i get some housing benefit ...i think this will be lowered when he stops college? If he becomes self employed he will get working tax credits and my question is...will he get a token of housing benefit to contribute to the rent here if there are weeks of no profit from the self employed business?

Should there be a qualifying period for NHS treatment and Benefits?

Should there be a qualifying period for people moving to the UK. Prior to them claiming benefits and NHS treatment even if they are from other EU countries? We have seen where some have left this country and still claim child benefits for children that have never lived in this country the truth is we do not know if these children exist or not. Do you think if anyone move to this country for work or to live they should have to pay into the system for say at least 5 years before having the free use of the NHS and benefits?
It seems that checks are not done as well as they should be maybe this is down to shortage of staff and work levels.
I feel we must do something to keep NHS cost down and why should people come here for a free ride. I am against other people exploiting the system no matter if they are British, legal or illegal.
I understand the comment re humanitarian however every thing has a price and I am not saying life threatening treatment be with held.
Sorry no I have checked it out and people can claim as soon as they land in the UK.

What benefits am i entitled to during unpaid maternity leave?

I am entitled to 9 months paid and 3 months unpaid maternity leave. I would love to spend some more time with my daughter.if i extend my maternity leave for another 3 months will i be entitled to any benefits (apart from child benefit)? i live with my partner and we have £600 mortgage plus bills to pay.

my sister-in-law is living with us now. how easy is it to start claiming child benefits and that?

we are already parents and we claim child benefits and child tax credits for her... my sister-in-law has come to live with us now because her step-dad keeps beating her up and she cant take it no more... she is 16 in october. her mum said to me that we wont be able to claim for her because she is her legal guardian until she is 16... but she is officially living here and is not classed as living with her mum anymore. her mum wont be providing anything for her, it will be us.. so will it be easy just to ring the child benefits and just tell them that she's just living with us now or do we have to do a much harder procedure?

Not taking it away from those already with children or those already pregnant, but say from today, nobody was 'entitled' to any government money for having children how would it effect the supposed 'unwanted' pregnancies in the UK????

Does Child Benefit count towards you Mortgage Allowance?

I already have a mortgage, but am wanting to move again within a year or two and will need to up my mortgage to do this.
So I was just wondering whether I could include any child benefits I might get as an income when applying for a mortgage. As I will only want to work part time, if I had a baby and might not be able to afford to move.

everyone gets child benefits. many people dont need help and use their benefits for holidays etc. over 60's get £200 heating allowance even if they are wealthy. means testing at a simple level would give our taxes to people that are in need. surely that makes a little bit of sense?
ok then budha. i think we as taxpayers should stop paying the benefits. and people in need should put in a claim. child benefits in particular. this government should stop giving handouts unnecessarily
gillon. your dad should get it. of course he should. but i work with a man whe gets it too. he is 61. his wife is 59 and works. he is the first to admit he shouldnt get it but it goes straight into his bank account. why?.
gillon. your dad must have it. but not people who dont need it. thats not unreasonable surely?
and i must add again. loads of people get child benefits who dont need it. even the queen received it. this is our money being thrown away isnt it?

I have used entitledto.co.uk Does this sound right?
If I work 16 hours and earn £120 gross,
My rent is £205, council tax £15, & childcare would cost £100ish.
I get £5 from CSA, and £18.80 Child Benefit.
So Entitled to calculates:
£198.85 Tax Credits
£2.61 Council Tax Benefit
£179.72 Housing Benefit
= £381.18 weekly
+ £18.80 Child Benefit
+ £5.00 Maintenance
+ £115 wages
+ £60 In work credit payment (for 52 weeks only)
= £579.98 Weekly
- £100 childcare
- £205 rent
- £15 council tax
= £259.98 Weekly compared to £120 on benefits.

Any single mums out there know if this sounds right thanks??

In Work Credit is not counted for HB /CTB purposes. I know this for a fact!
