UK WORK – my daughter leaves school Friday and wants to work for 8 wks before she goes to college Sept …more

Will she have to pay tax ? If so at what rate? Also informed child benefit office she intends to go to college and this will of course continue until she leaves college - However if she does take up temp work for 8 wks does this affect our child benefit ? We don't have/get any other benefits but don't want to do the wrong thing either. Thanks in advance to all :)

I did the same when i left school and did not pay tax and it didn't effect the child benefit my mum received. I am 19 now.

You dont pay tax untill you are 18.

ONTARIO – Child disability benefit?

My doctor has filled a child disability form in the year 2007 so we can claim the disability benefit. According to the form, my son had the disability since 2005. How far back can we claim the monthly benefit which is to be added to our existing child tax benefit? I have asked to reopen my 2005 & 2006 tax returns to claim the disability amounts.

You have up to three years to adjust a tax return, so you should get the amounts for DTC for 2005 and 2006. As far as your Child Tax Benefit, I'm not sure, you would have to check the website

What do I do with child benefits?

It's a question that my friend has asked me but I have no idea! Her son has turned 18 and things like Child Tax Credits gets cancelled because he can legally sign on for Job Seekers Allowance. But does she have to cancell Child Benefits too?

On the letter that she received, it said that they will carry on paying until August 2009 but she doesn't have the proof anymore because she through it away.

Does she need to cancel it now?

No child benefit usually cancels itself, if she's already been told they will carry on paying until August 2009, the payments will stop when August shows up. She won't have to cancel it, they will simply just stop paying for that one person. But just be safe i would ifthe payments don't stop ask her to make sure she rings them up to check before she spends any of the money!

Does Child Benefit need to be declared on EMA application forms?

I'm filling in my EMA form and was wondering if Child Benefit needs to be put down under household income. I don't think so but does anyone know for sure?

I think it's assumed that the EMA people are already aware of the "Child Benefit, it isn't to my recollection even mentioned on the EMA form.
Our form has been sent back and I'm not worried, if anything is wrong then I am sure they will let us know PDQ.

Are there any Parents who DONT claim child benefit? Question related to child and NI number?

Any other people who didn't get their NI number at 16 or later and had to ask for one through the Job centre? They all told me it was because she never claimed for me.

I was just wondering as my mum never claimed child benefit and hated going to the dole office in those days. she lived and worked with my grandparents in their hotel and never needed to claimed.

At 16 I was never sent an NI number (we did move around a lot, but I was mostly registered at the family home)
I eventually had to go ask the job centre and went for an interview with them (I was 19) I kept being asked when I moved to the UK and how long my mum had been here etc.
NONE of the officers could believe that someone from the UK could not have been sent an NI number and kept asking for proof I was a uk citizen! I had a passport luckily but if not, I'm not sure how it would have been handled as my birth cert does NOT have my first name, just my surname and they weren't too happy with that either.

My sister also had no NI sent and also had to go through the same thing at 21.

So has anyone else been through this or know if it's related to claiming child benefit? There must also be other families who move around or don't claim anything??
Just wondered as no one else I speak to about it, have ever heard of it happening lol
Thanks!
Edit: It was all sorted years ago lol I am 26 now and was actually working since 16.
I was just interested to see if anyone else has been through this that's all.

I know everyone is entitled to claim but my mum DIDNT and I have heard that some richer families feel they don't want to for moral reasons!
You don't HAVE to claim it but most do.

I know of someone else who doesn't claim child benefit, because financially they don't need too. Its handy to know what problems it caused you.

Glad you got your NI number sorted out eventually, it sounds like it was a lot of hassle for something you didn't do wrong!

Registering birth – Child Trust Fund – Child Benefit?

My mind's gone to mush, which order do you do these in again?

I think you have to register the birth to get the forms for child benefit, who then send the £250 voucher...... is that right?! What are the time limits on these things?

Thanks

Hello,

I understand the 'brain turning to mush' scenario - that's one of the things they don't tell you about having a baby!

It does return, but just to help out with your question: you have 42 days to register your baby, you have to go to your local town hall todo this, when you are there you'll get a birth certificate and a form to fill out for Child Benefit. Fill that out, post it to the address on the form and when that's been processed you'll automatically get your Child Trust Fund voucher!

Take a look at my website, www.moneyformums.co.uk as there's lots more useful information on there including details of the different types of Child Trust Funds available.

Good luck and congratulations!

Can non resident alien child qualify for tax benefits?

Hi,
I am a resident alien on a J1 while my wife and son are non resident aliens on a J2. My wife has a SSN while my son has an ITIN. They have lived with me the hole tax year.
Can I claim child tax benefits for my son?
Can we file jointly?
Thanks for all your help in advance,
AS

An ITIN will disqualify you for most of the tax benefits such as the child tax credit of $1000 and the Earned Income Credit. For those credits both the taxpayer and dependent must have a SSN. Yes file jointly.

how long does it take to get child tax benefit?

after i send in the application in canada.if my baby was born before the 20th of october, would i get for that month.

Depending on how many they get, 2 months is average. It took 3 for me to get mine due to the holiday season. You will get back paid though. If you phone 1-800-387-1193, they'll let you know where your request is at.
