Is a child eligible to receive Social Security survivor benefits if their parent commits suicide?
I know there are exclusionary clauses in life insurance contracts, but does Social Security deny a child benefits if their parent kills themselves?
They can still receive benefits as long as the parent worked and paid into the system for 10 years.
Can I get a mortgage being self employed? Will they take in to consideration child tax benefit payments?
I am self employed as a daycare provider, currently renting a house, but I would really like to buy a house, but I have only my daycare income, plus child tax benefits. I do have enough money for mortgage payments....any suggestions?
It is more difficult but not impossible to get a mortgage as a self employed person. You'll need to show a couple of years of income tax returns to prove you have a steady income, and they may need a higher down payment.
Contact your own bank first. Since they can access your account information, they are more likely to grant the loan.
Can Child Benefit be claimed by a parent when a child is in local authority care?
When a child is taken into care by social services can a parent still claim Child Benefit if they still spend money on the child?
No the person who has primary custody so it would be the state
Why does it take so long for the child benefit office to sort out my child benefit claim?
Hi there my little one was born on November 9th last year and I sent in my claim form for child benefit the middle of December I enclosed my bank details as requested and thought that would be it! a couple of weeks later I received a form asking for my bank details yet again which I filled out and sent back but still no money I have called them on numerous occasions but still no joy ! am just told that they have a backlog and they would sort it as soon as possible but they still did not have my bank details on the system and could not take it over the phone! was told that the forms were still in the system and that this would be rectified as soon as possible!
Last week....bearing in mind it is now February they still had not paid any money into my account so I called them again and was told they could now take my account details over the phone and that they would write to me when the claim was sorted and that the letter would give a date as to when I would have the money in my account!
Has anyone else had this probelm with the child benefit agency ?? I dont know if its worth me calling them every day but I have e mailed them, phoned them etc over the last couple of weeks and have got no where ! one of the people I spoke to was very rude and just kept on repeating well we have a backlog you know !
Any answers appreciated as long as they are nice.
Thanks

New Dependent Rules
If you provided support last year for a child in your household who is unrelated to you, you may be able to claim a deduction for that child due to new rules for dependents.
The IRS recently clarified the tax laws relating to qualifying dependents. This clarification means that if you live with and support your significant other's child, you can claim that child as your dependent. The child does not have to be a blood relative or related by marriage to be claimed as a dependent. This change is retroactive to all tax years beginning after December 31, 2004, which means you can amend your tax returns from those years to receive this benefit.
If you are eligible to claim an unrelated child as a dependent, you can also claim any eligible day care expenses for the Child and Dependent Care Credit.
This change provides many taxpayers who are responsible for a child with an added tax benefit when filing their tax return. You should also remember that you may be able to amend a previous year's return and receive a refund if you were living in a household with a non-related child that you supported during 2005 or 2006.
